1. A quarter of Americans hold unfavorable views of both Biden and Trump, making them the least-liked pair of major-party candidates in decades.

By comparison, at about this point in the 2016 campaign, 20% had unfavorable opinions of both Trump and Hillary Clinton. Before that, no more than 13% of U.S. adults felt this way about both major-party candidates in elections going back to 1988.

2. Voters who support Biden and Trump have starkly different opinions on “culture war” issues like immigration, diversity, crime and policing, and family and reproductive issues.

Yet in many cases, Biden and Trump supporters are also sharply divided among themselves. For example, Trump supporters differ over immigration, while Biden supporters differ over gender identity.
